| A little about the Community
Free Library |
- First established - 1946 in American Legion building with
efforts from Rev. Benjamin Klauser and Holley Rotary Club with
Mrs. Mildred Smith as first librarian.
- August 1961 - library moved to 4 Thomas Street.
- September 1965 - library moved to 82 Public Square.
- Absolute Charter granted in September 1970 to serve Orleans
County.
- In the beginning, library users had to pay $1.00 to be an
"official member" of the library and to get their
own library card. It wasn't long before the word "Free"
was inserted into the name of the library to become the Community
Free Library and make it a library free of charge to
anyone who wishes to belong.

1947-1997 by Winifred M. Bentley is available for sale and
can be shipped anywhere.
